affron - Crocus sativus pronounced [SAF-ruhn] is the world's most expensive spice. Saffron are the stigmas from the crocus sativus flower (see image below). There are only 3 stigmas (referred to as saffron threads) per flower. Saffron is hand harvested so you can understand why it is so prized and so expensive. The Beluga grow up to about 2,000 pounds and yield the largest "berries" (as the caviar grains are called) of all the species; Beluga do not begin to bear eggs until they are about 20 years old. For this reason, and because it has the mildest flavor, Beluga is the most highly prized of all caviar.

Vertu, a subsidiary of Nokia, boasts that it takes expert craftsmen some three years of training to learn how to make its phones. This device, a Vertu Signature, contains 943 diamonds on its bezel and 48 more on its keypad, each set in place by hand in Switzerland.
